UPDATE JULY 17 - there are no signs that this announcement will be made in August. The August announcement most probably will be about 2000D, 60D and the new PowerShots.

2 UPDATES AUGUST 3 -

-some demo/test units of 1Ds Mark has been seen in public or at least teported to be floating around

-Canon is reported to be preparing for a big revolutionary announcement on August 30 or 31.

UPDATE AUGUST 8 - Some source claims that 1Ds Mark IV will be announced in Photokina fair in September, and the first shipments can be expected in December. Sounds like we have new addition to the hottest Christamas toys list!

UPDATE AUGUST 10 - People are talking about mysterious events hosted by local Canon offices in different countries where a 'flagship DSLR' will be shown. One of these events will be in Poland on August 26.

UPDATE AUGUST 26- 1Ds Mark IV was not announced today. Some sources suggest that it will be announced at Photokina.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 10- the latest developments - there are rumours that 1Ds Mark 4 will be announced late 2011 or even early 2012!

UPDATE NOVEMBER 12 You know what? Some people suggest that there will be NO CANON 1DS MARK IV AT ALL! The upcoming 5D Mark III is suposed to take 1Ds'es place.

UPDATE DECEMBER 21 According to sources on the web it looks like there will be no Canon 1Ds Mark IV or any other replacement for 1Ds Mark III in 2011.

UPDATE JANUARY 5 1Ds Mark 4 is not coming before 2012.

UPDATE JANUARY 15 1Ds Mark III (the current 1Ds model) has dissapeared from Canon websites and pricelists in several countries. It is listed as 'Not Available' on Canon USA website.

UPDATE JANUARY 19 Canon 1Ds Mark IV will possibly be announced on January 31. That controversial rumor comes against all previous statements. But if Mark III has been pulled...Let's wait and see!

UPDATE JANUARY 21 Total BS! That's said about rumors that 1Ds will be announced on January 31. Canon 1Ds Mark IV is said to be on the 2012 launches list. BTW there are 2 units of Canon 1Ds Mark IV prototypes out there!

UPDATE FEBRUARY 1People are saying that Canon is working on square image sensor for 1D/1Ds cameras, capable of 8-10fps with a 35-40mp image file.

32MP CMOS sensor using new sensor technology
This sensor is built with dynamic range in mind, less focusing on noise control. Some sources report that it will be in fact backlit 29.6MP sensor. They say that using backlit sensor technology doubles the sensor sensitivity.

New Dual DIGIC V image processor
Dual DIGIC V processors are a necessity required by the new sensor. 1Ds Mark IV will be the second Canon EOS digital camera using DIGIC V, another upcoming model EOS 60D being the first. It is a bit controversial prediction because 1D Mark 4 still has DIGIC IV processor.

5.5 FPS shooting speed
Minimal increase in shooting speed if compared to current model.

Video Features
1Ds Mark IV will be offering the same video features as current EOS 1D Mark IV, with some minor bells and whistles added.

Live View feature

7.5MP Liveview mode at 30fps

Auto Focus

1Ds mkIV is going to have the fastest contrast detection AF any Canon digital SLR camera has ever had.

Body size
The Canon 1Ds Mark IV body will have the same shape and size as the current 1D model.

New Flash Master
Canon is working on a new Speedlite flash model which will require the new built in flash master.

No sensor cleaning device
It is believed that canon is removing the 3-layer low pass filter to improve per-pixel acutance and microcontrast.
